Mark F.Twigt write in his book ”Extreme Alpinism” about security. He writes that a mature climber knows how to fear that which should be feared and runs away when appropriate. He easily accepts the precence of fear and the stress it implies. He may attain a state of egolessness in which he understands that caos rules. Upon recognizing his powerlessness over the Environment, the mature climber understands the value spirittual development and the necessity of fosterin a Connection between himself and the mountain.

14:th of July 1865 Edward Wyhmper was the first on the summit of Matterhorn..

The triumph is a fact, and they  can feel secure that the Italian not has reach te top.  There is no fotprints in the snow. But the joy is short lived. During the descending four of the seven strong climbing team falls into a certain death. All of the climb he has written in a book. 1015 is Matterhorns year…

19:th of December, light is not always right..

images[6]

So today it is time to open door 19th. Normally I am against pointers, but today it will be one. Today it will be about trailrunning. There will Always be new forms of training activity, and I think that is good. In this category, it about going fast in the mountain environment, and to do fast top ascends. This has starting to be a reason for mountain rescue missions. They become Cold, and dont got the right equipment(it to light for the reason that it must be fast).  I am not against this form of training or activity, but in my meaning we always must carry or own equpment for ”survival”, and of course the knowledge of handle our selves in the Environment…

Do not use the rescue resorces in unnecesserly..

18:th of December…

17:tn of December, its the small thing that matters?

julkalender_17-620x400[1]

So, then it was time to open door seventeen, and look wats there..

Today I was thinking about the big adventures and the small adventures. We sometimes tend to forget that it can be the small thing that matters…

We can read about those ones who have done the seven summits and we wish that is has been me standing there..But hand to our heart, do you relly think you have been a more happier human with that? I think that the risk today is that we always want to be someone else or somewhere else. I think it is better to come in terms with who you are and go from there…

acomplish-something-big-life-made-up-of-little-things-quote-300x214[1]

And related to yesterdays blog, you here got a video for sharpening your ice axes..

16:th of December, about a guest house and glacier tips..

cropOM_16[1]

We open door sixteen today..

In the area of the ”Höga kusten” there is  a small friendly guest house. Skuleskogens guesthouse. It is real nice Place and the Environment is fantastic. It is also close to Skulebergets Via ferrata area. So this can be a very good basecamp for a lot of adventure. Please follow the link if you are interested.

When it comes to glacier walks and Winter/ice climbing, here comes some tips.

Rope: use a ”dry” or water-repellent type of rope. this do not tend to freeze up as other type of ropes. Sharp tools is also important. Picks and crampons need to be sharpened. For this you can use a small file, something you always should bring with you within this activity. Add a little extra money on good quality file. Never use power grinder, it can couse damage to the Equipment. You also can use for example Locktite to provide extra Insurance that bolts will stay tight.

L_SABRETOOTHPRO[1]

Always have Sharp Tools….

15:th December, about cold…

imagesR50PGGD4

It is time to open door fifteen, and today is about Cold..

How can you protect you and adept yourself to Cold? First of all the clothing is very important. The best is to use the multilayer principle. Use merino wool closet to your body, this will protect you from being wet. It is also imortant to take into account the wind drift.

1310763155_428_FT88410_kyleffekten[1]

Table of wind cooling effect. Easy to remember: 10m/s & -10 = -20.

You most protect you from the wind to take the heat from your body. So a middle layer with down or primaloft makes a air gap, that helps you to keep you warm. With this you can avoid a part of the wind coling factor.

L_84241_2[1]

A suggestion of mid layer..

I also talked with Roger Kölegård  at KTH (Royal Institute of Technology) who is a scientist and researching about Cold. He told me that the human body can adopt to Cold. But not as much as they thought. It is also realetd to gender, and personality as well. A fisherman dont adept more then anyone else. But most likely they got a high pain treshold. If you got a thermal injury, warm it with a body part such as a hand or in the armpit. For not so long ago, the sugestion was to rub the injured area with snow! Totally wrong, and also to put ointment(salva in Swedish) before enter the artic air..

umbellin[1]

Even Skid och Friluftsfrämjandet (ski and outdoor promotion)developed a ointment for this..Time and knowlege change…

Se ya tomorrow..
