Crisp morning -17 degrees. Slowly the body starts to wake up. The schedule for today is Avalanche rescue course. The first hours will be information and classroom training. Then it is time to put the skies on. We start with a group control of the transceivers and continue up to the outdoor training area. The first step will be a safety assessment of the area. Breathing in the cold air in my nose and looking out of the view. After discussing the area and what risk that is related we got two stations of training. One with probe and the other with transceiver. It is really good to get a update on the technique. The probe technique is also relevant. We also go to know the RECCO system and how to use the RECCO hand held detector. Quite good to understand it and how to use/not to use together with transceiver.
Day two it was a short recap and then equipment on, and up by the ski lift. At the training area it was time for safety assessment of the area, and after that going trough the scenario for a avalanche rescue set up. We also had to dig out one victim and do a medicine assesment out of the victim. We also looked into the technique of digging out an avalanche victim in the most efficient way. After a continuously training with the RECCO equipment and the examination for approval of the Avalanche Rescue leader assesment. So overall a real good course with very skilled instructors.
